K-1 tramcar
In 2001 TATRA-YUG Joint Venture made a tram-car, type K-1, all assemblies and units having been manufactured in Ukraine. K-1 is a novel tram-car. It is the first in CIS countries to have a frameless body.
An electron-pulse system that employs IJBT-transistors is used to control traction motors. This is one of the latest achievements of modern science and technology in the field of traction motor drive. Not only power consumption from mains in the traction mode is reduced owing to the use of such control system but also a recuperative braking of the tram-car is ensured when electric power generated by traction motors is returned to power network. Hence, power consumption of K-1 is 40 to 50 percent less than that of other types of tram-cars. Reliability of such system determined by mean-time-between-failures (MTBF) is higher by an order than that in rheostat-contactor systems. This makes it possible to extend time between overhauls and, hence, to reduce operation costs. Service life of the body is increased essentially owing to the manufacture of the most corrodent components from stainless steel and composites as well as owing to the use of antirust and paint coats made by advanced European companies.
A static power converter is used in the tram-car for a reliable supply of board low-voltage systems. It also employs IJBT transistors. An updated current collector as well as a radio information device with a digital sound-recording system are mounted.

MOTION CARTS
These have simple and rational structure. Wheei, sprung with rubber elements, provide sileni. and quiet run. Traction motors are placed on the carls and are coupled with reducers through cardan - joirus.
BRAKES
The tramcar is equipped with the following brake types:
electrodynamic brake,
mechanical disk brake,
electromagnet rail brake.
CAR BODY
The car body has steel - welded structure, made of bent profiles with outside steel casing. The body has modern shape and wide windows, providing light exposure of interior and review .
The tramcar is equipped with three four - leaved folding doors that provide quick and convenient exit and entrance of the passengers. Heating of the pas-senger's room is made with reactive heating elements, located within the side walls of the tramcar. The dri-ver's cabin is heated and ventilated by virtue of a sep-arate unit. The tramcar is equipped with comfortable seats. Lighting of the passengers' room is provide with fluorescent lamps.
ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT KPTT - 1
The tramcar uses traction electric motors with individual ventilation. The traction drive has a convert-er, with modern powerful IJBT-transistors, which ensures separate operation carts.
Electric equipment of the tramcar is provided with a safety system against skidding and slippage. As a result, operation safety during braking is improved with simultaneous reduction of wear and tear of the wheels.
To charge the battery and to provide 24 V current circuits supply, a static converter PCC 820/28-160; the converter guarantees high operation reliability.
